July BJP (Bead Journal Project)

Now I am jumping back a couple of months... you with me?

Sparklers on the 4th of July

Even though this round of the Bead Journal Project officially ended at the end of August, I am still working on finishing mine. That's one thing I love about this - while I aim for the date guidelines, I don't always make them and with this project - there is no pressure.

I recently finished my July page and it's all about the fireworks! Since I moved to Indiana 5 years ago, I spend the holiday with my son. He's a pyro, er I mean a big fan of fireworks. Unlike California (where we both grew up), fireworks are legal in Indiana, so the little stands and shops pop up all over the place in the summer. My son usually teams up with a friend or a neighbor to put on a show. This year his dad, step mom, brother and sister came for a visit and the show was spectacular!

The Gonzales men

This was their first trip to Indiana, and it's now obvious to me that my son's love of fireworks is not by chance, it is certainly genetic. There was an amazing array of sparkles, lights, smoke and explosions on the ground as well as in the sky. A good time was had by all.

So, when I think of July, I think of fireworks - when I think of fireworks, I think of my boy. That is how my July BJP came in to being.

Here's the back

I have not yet started August, but it's at least on the radar. I'd like to get it done and all the pieces sewn together before the next round of the BJP starts, but am not sure if that's realistic. It's my goal though!

Leaves of Grass

This is what you shall do: Love the earth and sun and the animals, despise riches, give alms to every one that asks, stand up for the stupid and crazy, devote your income and labor to others, hate tyrants, argue not concerning God, have patience and indulgence toward the people, take off your hat to nothing known or unknown or to any man or number of men, go freely with powerful uneducated persons and with the young and with the mothers of families, read these leaves in the open air every season of every year of your life, re-examine all you have been told at school or church or in any book, dismiss whatever insults your own soul, and your very flesh shall be a great poem and have the richest fluency not only in its words but in the silent lines of its lips and face and between the lashes of your eyes and in every motion and joint of your body - Walt Whitman
