A view from my window...

Here is my Bead Journal page for December, all about snow and ice - big surprise!

December was filled with ice, snow and more ice. After our 'big' ice storm, we did lose power for the better part of a day. I consider us lucky because there were so many homes that were without power for several days.

We did have a warm up for a few days where the snow/ice did melt, but most days when I looked outside I saw snow, or ice.

I beaded up these cute little snowflakes found in the book "Bead Creative Art Quilts" by Nancy Eha. They are SO much fun to make!

The snowflakes were created with smaller beads 13/0 - 15/0 and some charlottes for a little extra added sparkle.

After the snowflakes were all complete, I tacked them down with a small stitch at each point and then made an attempt to bead what might look like a window pane, I'm not thrilled with the results, but will chalk that up to a learning experience and go from there.

I've also included a shot of the back of the piece.

Are you sure you weren't looking through MY window? Nope, you would have put a bird on the flakes LOL.

O well, pretty soon we will be seeing bright sunny days. They are just a blink away.

Very wintry page. Great choice of background and the snowflakes are great. What is the dark line in the corner?

What beautiful fabric. The snow flakes are elegant. It disguises the toughness of ice. In Minnesota we have also had a lot ice and snow and below zero weather but looking at this piece helps me appreciaate there beauty.

Great piece, Grace! When I visited my son in Indianapolis in mid-December, I was so glad to know I would get to return to southern New Mexico where we certainly NEVER experience these type of window scenes.

But I remember them well from all those years of living in snowy, freezing Cleveland, Ohio . . .

this wonderful, so full of light it almost glows like the ice it is depicting.

Lovely snowflakes. I think we were lucky to, we lost power for a few hours but my brother in law was without power for over a week! I think we can still complain about the ice and snow though.

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Cold as it was, the snow it pretty and one of nature's special gifts. Your view from inside the window is a wonderful idea. It gives a good sense of what the month was like for you.

Also, you chose such perfect fabric for this one!!!

WARM hugs, Robin A.

I love this one too! I think the fabric is perfect and I adore those snowflakes! I have her book too and I would love to try these...they are so cute. I see where you were going...and I like how you raised the window pane with 8's?...giving it more depth! Very cool! ;-)

You show how beautiful snow can be--even from the inside.

Its snowing across the pond as well (I'm freezing my fingers in Wales, with the heating on!) so I understand!

These are beautiful, stunningly intricate. I have to admit I'm more drawn to the firey warmth of November's piece though, want to hold my handsout over it and bask in the embodied sun!

I keep thinking about joining the Beaded journal project, but for now I simply have too many projects going! :)

This is what you shall do: Love the earth and sun and the animals, despise riches, give alms to every one that asks, stand up for the stupid and crazy, devote your income and labor to others, hate tyrants, argue not concerning God, have patience and indulgence toward the people, take off your hat to nothing known or unknown or to any man or number of men, go freely with powerful uneducated persons and with the young and with the mothers of families, read these leaves in the open air every season of every year of your life, re-examine all you have been told at school or church or in any book, dismiss whatever insults your own soul, and your very flesh shall be a great poem and have the richest fluency not only in its words but in the silent lines of its lips and face and between the lashes of your eyes and in every motion and joint of your body - Walt Whitman
