Out of town

Photo of a perfect Oak - taken in Concord, CA several years ago

I am out of town until May 11. For those if you that celebrate it this month, have a wonderful Mother's Day.

I look forward to 'seeing' you when I return. My next post will mark a year since I started this blog as well as my 150th post. Reason to celebrate I think!

Grace,

I lived away from California for 15 years once. I knew I was back home when I saw the oaks on the hills. It was one of the prettiest sights I'd ever seen. Thanks for the picture.

Hi Arline - I loved it there so much. I lived at the foot of Mt. Diablo on the border of Clayton and Concord. This photo was taken at Lime Ridge Open Space - I used to walk there frequently, so peaceful and right off a main street. I do miss it, I really miss mountains and the ocean.

But then I do have the grandkids here, so I really can't complain.

I'm glad you enjoyed the photo

Would you believe that I have a 60 year-old California Live Oak growing at the corner of my front yard here in southern New Mexico?

Travel safely and be well, Grace.

Thanks for the notes! KV - I'd love to see a photo of that oak. Lisa, I had a wonderful Mother's Day - my son is so good to me, I love spending time with him. Phyl, LB, Arline, it's good to be home. Nothing like sleeping in your own bed! Tina, it's always nice to see you stop by :-)

Leaves of Grass

This is what you shall do: Love the earth and sun and the animals, despise riches, give alms to every one that asks, stand up for the stupid and crazy, devote your income and labor to others, hate tyrants, argue not concerning God, have patience and indulgence toward the people, take off your hat to nothing known or unknown or to any man or number of men, go freely with powerful uneducated persons and with the young and with the mothers of families, read these leaves in the open air every season of every year of your life, re-examine all you have been told at school or church or in any book, dismiss whatever insults your own soul, and your very flesh shall be a great poem and have the richest fluency not only in its words but in the silent lines of its lips and face and between the lashes of your eyes and in every motion and joint of your body - Walt Whitman
