Inspiration & Healing Deck - Card #1

I joined a small group of artists in a collaboration to create a deck of cards for inspiration & healing. The participants are to create two original (small) artworks on the topic of personal healing & inspiration. Each piece will be scanned and the image included in a deck of cards that will be published as a limited run edition. You can read more about it on Mother Henna's blog, there is or will be links to the images of the other participants to be used in the deck as they are completed.

My first card "Love Well" is inspired by my grandmother. It is something she managed to do even as she outlived her spouse, all of her siblings and each of her 3 children. After all of that she still radiated love and kindness and was always filled with hope. I never witnessed a foul/down mood or a cross word from her, to me she epitomized true and complete goodness. She passed away in 1998 and I have missed having her in my life each and every day since then.

The heart bead is made of wood and all the beads are glass in various sizes and colors. I backed it with mustard colored ultrasuede and sewed it to the front with a beaded whip stitch.

Wow your beading is beautiful. I found your blog via Dots Life and Art. I can't believe you are in Indiana, the first blogger I've located from here. I'm up here in Osceola, between Mishawaka and Elkhart.

Hi Grace! Thanks so much for letting me know your first card was online -- it's beautiful! I'll edit the entry on my blog to add this permalink, too, okay?

Many miracles to you!

Great card. I have sketches of my two but that's it. I was trying to get them into my computer so I could print out a bunch to play with but I don't think I'm too good at it as I still have a couple of sketches and that's it! LOL. I am working on it.

Hi Gillian, thanks so much, I'm glad you could visit! Ha, I am REALLY a grandmother... my first grandchild was born with I was 35. My son and I were both teen parents :-) It sure is nice to enjoy them while I'm still young enough!

Thank you Regina, I'm with you - I'm so excited to see the finished deck.

Lovely piece of beaded art! It feels so cheerful and the message is tender and alive.

I did beadwork as a living for 22 years, seems a life time ago, but only 3 years really.

Leaves of Grass

This is what you shall do: Love the earth and sun and the animals, despise riches, give alms to every one that asks, stand up for the stupid and crazy, devote your income and labor to others, hate tyrants, argue not concerning God, have patience and indulgence toward the people, take off your hat to nothing known or unknown or to any man or number of men, go freely with powerful uneducated persons and with the young and with the mothers of families, read these leaves in the open air every season of every year of your life, re-examine all you have been told at school or church or in any book, dismiss whatever insults your own soul, and your very flesh shall be a great poem and have the richest fluency not only in its words but in the silent lines of its lips and face and between the lashes of your eyes and in every motion and joint of your body - Walt Whitman
