Inspiration & Healing Deck - Card #2

I joined a small group of artists in a collaboration to create a deck of cards for inspiration & healing. The participants are to create two original (small) artworks on the topic of personal healing & inspiration. Each piece will be scanned and the image included in a deck of cards that will be published as a limited run edition. You can read more about it on Mother Henna's blog, there are links to the images of the other participants pieces to be used in the deck as they are completed.

The card is approx 4 x 2.75 inches. The focal piece is a vintage glass cabochon found on EBay. I added just a little bit of glue to hold the cab in place and peyote stitched in place with size 11/0 and 15/0 seed beads. I surrounded the cab with amber colored faceted rondelle beads, then a row of sparkling Swarovski bicone beads. The outside row is the most wonderful, tiny vintage heart shaped glass sew-ons.

For my second card, I wanted to focus more on healing since my first card was about inspiration. So this one is about finding PEACE. Whether it is in the heart, the mind, the past, the present, our conscience, or the world in general.

I personally struggle with it at times, but try, each day, to know and to feel peace.

I'll end this post with one of my favorite quotes...

You never fail until you stop trying.

Inspiration & Healing Deck - Card #1

I joined a small group of artists in a collaboration to create a deck of cards for inspiration & healing. The participants are to create two original (small) artworks on the topic of personal healing & inspiration. Each piece will be scanned and the image included in a deck of cards that will be published as a limited run edition. You can read more about it on Mother Henna's blog, there is or will be links to the images of the other participants to be used in the deck as they are completed.

My first card "Love Well" is inspired by my grandmother. It is something she managed to do even as she outlived her spouse, all of her siblings and each of her 3 children. After all of that she still radiated love and kindness and was always filled with hope. I never witnessed a foul/down mood or a cross word from her, to me she epitomized true and complete goodness. She passed away in 1998 and I have missed having her in my life each and every day since then.

The heart bead is made of wood and all the beads are glass in various sizes and colors. I backed it with mustard colored ultrasuede and sewed it to the front with a beaded whip stitch.

Leaves of Grass

This is what you shall do: Love the earth and sun and the animals, despise riches, give alms to every one that asks, stand up for the stupid and crazy, devote your income and labor to others, hate tyrants, argue not concerning God, have patience and indulgence toward the people, take off your hat to nothing known or unknown or to any man or number of men, go freely with powerful uneducated persons and with the young and with the mothers of families, read these leaves in the open air every season of every year of your life, re-examine all you have been told at school or church or in any book, dismiss whatever insults your own soul, and your very flesh shall be a great poem and have the richest fluency not only in its words but in the silent lines of its lips and face and between the lashes of your eyes and in every motion and joint of your body - Walt Whitman
