July Bead Journal Project (BJP)

'Justine'

I put the finishing touches on my July page and just took photos. I have been out of town, so I wasn't able to post progress photos as I went - I didn't think it would make a big difference to me, but now that I have done it with June - I find I miss watching the progress. I hope to be able to track my progress in August with photos.

July is dedicated to my granddaughter, her birthday falls in July. I traced her hand, pulled out some purple and yellow beads and went from there, I didn't have a plan in mind but was thrilled to find I had purple leaf beads that looked perfect as fingernails to me.

Here's the back of it finished with ultra suede

This is what it looked like before I added the ultra suede

What a great piece! I especially like the contrast between the background and the hand, done by changing the bead pattern rather than color...very interesting!

Very beautiful, even elegant.
I will have later on more looks because for me it es very good for studying to see the way you finished your piece. Thanks for sharing.

Do I see it right, that you used some fusing (the white?). Do you stitch holding it just in the hand or do you use a loop?

Enjoy the birthday with your granddaughter!

Really, really nice Grace. It's a very elegant hand. Your grandaughter will be very happy to see what you did with her hand.

Hi all - thanks for the comments...

Beadbabe - it's the first time I tried the contrast thing and am pleased with the results - I'm slowly trying new things and am thankful to the project for the push in that regard.

Tally - I don't use a loop, in this piece I used Pellon Peltex 70 ultra firm stabilizer, it's sturdy enough to handle on it's own while I bead (I send you an email with more details).

Freebird - thank you, I'm excited for her to see it as she has only seen the outline so far - she'll love the fact that I gave her 'fingernails'.

Grace that is so wonderful. I too love the way you used stitch directions to make the changes. Your work on the back is so neat. I know this will be a treasure for you for many many years.

Just gourgeous, the bead work is equisite and being that purple is one of my colors, I love the colors! Nice tough with the yellow. I am sure your granddaughter will love it.

Grace, the smoothness that you get with backstitch is just amazing to me! I love the finger nails... those leaf beads really finish off the fingers nicely! You so inspire me... I hope it is alright that I added you to my beading blog list on my blog...

This is just beautiful. Naturally, I love the spirals, especially the one in the palm of her hand. We all have that natural energy center there.

This is yet another amazing and wonderful page!!!! Just the right amount of yellow (I'm very curioius about the yellow thumb) and visual texture. Looking at it enlarged, the yellow hand spiral seemed to pulse and move in a counter-clockwise direction. Totally awesome ~ beautiful work!!!

This is a super "page". Your beading is fantastic. And I just love your little star fish man, Blue Moon. What a neat piece that is ;-)

This is what you shall do: Love the earth and sun and the animals, despise riches, give alms to every one that asks, stand up for the stupid and crazy, devote your income and labor to others, hate tyrants, argue not concerning God, have patience and indulgence toward the people, take off your hat to nothing known or unknown or to any man or number of men, go freely with powerful uneducated persons and with the young and with the mothers of families, read these leaves in the open air every season of every year of your life, re-examine all you have been told at school or church or in any book, dismiss whatever insults your own soul, and your very flesh shall be a great poem and have the richest fluency not only in its words but in the silent lines of its lips and face and between the lashes of your eyes and in every motion and joint of your body - Walt Whitman
