A collaborative effort

In the not too distant past, it was revealed in one of my online groups that one of our members was battling cancer. I felt compelled to bead a doll for her - if for nothing else - to maybe provide some smiles as she went through treatment. I wasn't the only one that had that idea. Another group member (Alexia) and I decided we would bead a doll together.

Alexia creates beautiful beaded faces. She started the doll by adding this wonderful beaded face and some embellishments. She then sent the doll and the beads she had been using to me. I added a few beads from my stash and continued working on her until the doll felt complete.

This doll turned out to be larger (8" tall) than what I work on most of the time. It was challenging to me, but refreshing at the same time. I don't know that I have ever worked with this many colors at once - what fun!

Leaves of Grass

This is what you shall do: Love the earth and sun and the animals, despise riches, give alms to every one that asks, stand up for the stupid and crazy, devote your income and labor to others, hate tyrants, argue not concerning God, have patience and indulgence toward the people, take off your hat to nothing known or unknown or to any man or number of men, go freely with powerful uneducated persons and with the young and with the mothers of families, read these leaves in the open air every season of every year of your life, re-examine all you have been told at school or church or in any book, dismiss whatever insults your own soul, and your very flesh shall be a great poem and have the richest fluency not only in its words but in the silent lines of its lips and face and between the lashes of your eyes and in every motion and joint of your body - Walt Whitman
