A doll for a friend

I adore small beaded dolls, they work up quick and feel great in my hands. Many times I will bead dolls, with no particular recipient in mind - just to bead. Most of my beaded dolls become gifts to friends, a few have been donated for fund raising auctions and I have kept a few for myself.

This doll was made with a particular friend in mind. Someone I met last spring while on a volunteer vacation in the hills of Eastern Kentucky. She lives in New Mexico. Last fall we (her and another friend) had a little reunion in Minneapolis. She went on and on about the fall colors, to the point she wanted to take some leaves home with her. She never did take any leaves with her, so I beaded up this doll in colors that remind me of fall.

The doll form is about 2" tall by Monica Magness, polymer clay face by Jen Martin at GraphixOutpost (a favorite face artist). Other materials used - Japanese & Czech seed beads, swarovski margarita 3700 beads.

Oooooh, those colors are so me! I might have to incorporate this color scheme in one of my journal pages. ;)

Leaves of Grass

This is what you shall do: Love the earth and sun and the animals, despise riches, give alms to every one that asks, stand up for the stupid and crazy, devote your income and labor to others, hate tyrants, argue not concerning God, have patience and indulgence toward the people, take off your hat to nothing known or unknown or to any man or number of men, go freely with powerful uneducated persons and with the young and with the mothers of families, read these leaves in the open air every season of every year of your life, re-examine all you have been told at school or church or in any book, dismiss whatever insults your own soul, and your very flesh shall be a great poem and have the richest fluency not only in its words but in the silent lines of its lips and face and between the lashes of your eyes and in every motion and joint of your body - Walt Whitman
